Join us in celebrating Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage month with a lineup of performances showcasing dance and music from different Asian ethnic groups. Performances include Filipino dance from The Filipino School of NY & NJ,  Korean music from Canadian-Korean cellist Soo Bae, Japanese dance from the Yosakoi Dance Project - 10tecomai and Chinese dance and music from our NYCCC artists. After the performances, we will have a Chinese dance workshop by New York Chinese Cultural Center and a Filipino martial arts workshop by Filipino Kali Academy for you to pick up some new moves. We are excited to collaborate with the Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans in this event. Let's lift each other up in celebration of our different Asian heritages. Let's unite in solidarity to support each other and work together in standing up against anti-Asian violence and racism. Together, we are stronger!

Workshop 1: Filipino Martial Arts at 11:30am ET

This workshop introduces the basic technique of Filipino Martial Arts. Kali is an indigenous Filipino fighting art of the Philippines, also known as the national martial arts of Philippines.

Workshop 2: Chinese Dance at 11:30am ET

This Chinese dance workshop introduces the basic technique of Chinese classical dance. Participants will get a taste of the dance form through learning some signature movements and hand gestures.

Music Appreciation Series

New York Chinese Cultural Center is excited to present our Chinese Music Appreciation Series led by musician Yang Wang. This educational series will showcase different instruments with a discussion on the history and cultural significance of each instrument. Instruments will include erhu, dizi, guzheng, pipa and zhongruan.

New York Chinese Cultural Center is offering free weekly online Chinese folk dance classes throughout the COVID-19 pandemic! Each class includes a 20-minute warm up and strength segment, followed by 40 minutes of learning dance subject material. HKDBF-NY, an international, multi-cultural celebration and sporting event, the largest multicultural Festival in New York and the largest festival of its kind in the U.S. HKDBF-NY keeps up the age old tradition of Dragon Boat Racing in colorful, custom made teak boats, which are virtual works of art gliding on water. Custom made by a small coterie of craftsmen in Hong Kong, weighing one ton each, colorfully painted with a Dragon head at the front and Dragon tail at the rear, the boats are piloted by up to 20 crewmen, including 18 paddlers, a drummer and steers person. For twenty-eight successful years HKDBF-NY has attracted a diverse, multi-cultural audience of more than 30,000 attendees throughout North America. NYCCC is excited to be participating in the NYC Winter Lantern Festival at Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden. The festival will run from November 28th through January 7th. We will be performing 72 shows.
 

Seven acres of Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden will be lit up by 40 LED installations that stretch up to 30 feet tall. The LED lanterns will be accompanied by live performances of traditional Chinese dances and art. Along with this, there will be a variety of holiday vendors to create an experience for guests of all ages.
