Vibrant and traditional dances by New York Chinese Cultural Center (NYCCC) performed at The Metropolitan Museum of Art celebrating 100 Years of Asian Art. NYCCC is greatful for being once again part of this prestigious event!

 

Yang Wang, a Ribbon Dance performer from the New York Chinese Cultural Center, joined NBC New York to discuss The Year of the Monkey Family Festival with Donna Williams, chief audience development officer, and Marco Castro Cosio, manager of Media Lab.

Brookfield Place – Winter Garden

The Lunar New Year was a burst of energy and color with traditional Chinese dance and music, as well as theatrical players in full traditional make-up and regalia. The Year of the Monkey celebration at Brookfield Place with a started dynamic Lion Parade led by lion dances throughout the space. The Monkey King himself joined the family friendly performances.

Staten Island Children's Museum

We celebrated the Year of the Monkey with our friends at SI Children's Museum with a perfomance by Dance China NY followed by a School of the Arts demonstration. New York Chinese Cultural Center (NYCCC) taught kids about the Asian holiday using the traditional "monkey dance" among other performances.

For the first time, public schools throughout the city were closed for the Lunar New Year. New York Chinese Cultural Center taught kids about the Asian holiday.

St. John's University – Stamp Unveilling

U.S. issues Commemorative Forever Stamp and rings in the Year of the Monkey with an official first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony at St. John's University.

U.S. issues Year of Monkey Commemorative Forever Stamp

Bei Zheng, New York Chinese Cultural Center's School Director, opened the unveilling ceremony of the commemorative forever Stamp by performing a Fan Dance. The Stamp was designed by illustrator Kam Mak, a China's Hong Kong-born artist who grew up in New York City's Chinatown.
