CALLIGRAPHY AND/OR INK BRUSH PAINTING

Using an ink brush, the teaching artist shows and explains the relationship between ancient Chinese pictographs and their modern day ideographs. The instructor also demonstrates how this simple writing tool and a range of ink colors can coat a canvas to create lush panoramic landscape views of mountains, rivers and forests. Students get to participate by learning how to write with the brush and to create their own paintings and Chinese symbols on rice paper. (Grades: 2 -12)
