Lunar Fest NJ 2024

We were delighted to extend warm greetings to everyone who attended SOMA Cross Cultural Works' (SOMA CCW) annual Lunar Fest NJ! This festival recognized and celebrated Lunar New Year, the Year of the Dragon. SOMA CCW, a non-profit organization based in Maplewood, NJ, is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion in our two towns. As a non-profit, we thrived on working with and leading the community in creative and cultural endeavors. We firmly believed that cultural diversity was a powerful force for the development of all individuals and our community as a whole. It served as a vehicle that mobilized us, helped us generate meaningful dialogue with others, and fostered intercultural connections that encouraged inclusion, understanding, and friendship.

Vania King headlines AAPI tennis event at the 2023 US Open

Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the US Open was all about advancing the mission of the Asian American Pacific Islander Tennis Association (AAPITA). Former US Open doubles champion Vania King and other volunteers were on hand for a special tennis and sports clinic on the US Open grounds.

Ying Yen, executive director of the New York Chinese Cultural Center, said that blending "all activities, like tennis, sports, cultural activities and the arts" can only have a positive benefit on young children. "I think the USTA did a great job of bringing all of these art forms together through sports," she said.

Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival returning to Queens with packed schedule of races and entertainment

To celebrate the “Year of the Rabbit,” the 31st Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in New York (HKDBF-NY) took place in Flushing Meadows Corona Park on Aug. 12 and 13. HKDBF-NY, the oldest and largest traditional boat festival in the country, will feature boat races, food, and free live entertainment. This includes performances by the Shaolin Martial Artists; Dance China NY of the New York Chinese Cultural Center; Japanese dancer Junko Fisher; Manhattan Taiko, the Japanese drumming group; the Chinese Musical Ensemble of New York; and violinist Daisy Jopling.

New York Chinese Cultural Center To Hold Performance At Bryant Park On June 25, 2021

Bryant Park honors one facet of the rich cultural tapestry of NYC’s AAPI community with a program of traditional Chinese music, acrobatics, dance, and martial arts from New York Chinese Cultural Center (NYCCC). Founded in 1974, NYCCC, a nonprofit cultural and educational institution, is dedicated to deepening the understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture through the arts in the global and local communities.

NYCCC’s Executive Director Ying Yen says, “New York Chinese Cultural Center is excited to be a part of the Bryant Park Picnic Performances along with other amazing performing groups. It’s wonderful to see New York City’s diverse arts community come together to share our love of the arts and bring moments of joy to the heart of Manhattan in Bryant Park.”
